प्रसंग में यह खण्ड इस बात की सूचना देता है कि किसी भी शुक्ल पक्ष में मंगलवार के दिन या चतुर्थी तिथि को जो व्यक्ति श्रद्धापूर्वक श्राद्धकर्म करता है, वह कभी प्रेत योनि में नहीं पड़ता। श्रीरामचन्द्र जी ने अपने पिता का श्राद्ध पुष्कर तीर्थ में जाकर किया था, इसका वर्णन भी प्राप्त होता है। रामेश्वरम में ज्योतिर्लिंग की पूजा का उल्लेख भी इसमें मिलता है। कार्तिकेय द्वारा तारकासुर के वध की कथा भी इसमें प्राप्त होती है।, इस खण्ड में बताया गया है कि एकादशी के प्रतिदिन आंवले के जल से स्नान करने पर ऐश्वर्य और लक्ष्मी की प्राप्ति होती है। आवंले की महिमा का बखान करने के उपरान्त तुलसी की महिमा का भी वर्णन है। तुलसी का पौधा घर में रहने से भूत-प्रेत, रोग आदि कभी प्रवेश नहीं करते। इसमें व्यास जी गंगाजल के एक मूलमन्त्र का भी वर्णन करते हैं। उनके मतानुसार जो व्यक्ति निम्रवत् मन्त्र का एक बार जप करके गंगाजल से स्नान करता है, वह भगवान विष्णु के चरणों का संयोग प्राप्त कर लेता है।, मन्त्र इस प्रकार है, जो सृष्टि खण्ड के गंगा माहात्म्य-45 में वर्णित है-, ॐ नमो गंगायै विश्वरूपिण्यै नारायण्यै नमो नम:।, अर्थात् विश्व रूप वाली साक्षात् नारायण स्वरूप भगवती गंगा के लिए मेरा बारम्बार प्रणाम है। गंगा की स्तुति के बाद श्रीगणेश और सूर्य की स्तुति की गई है तथा संक्रान्ति काल के पुण्य फल का उल्लेख किया गया है।, भूमि का वेन को उपदेश, सुकाला की कथा, शूकर-शूकरी की उपाख्यान, पिप्पल की पितृ तीर्थ प्रसंग में तपस्या, सुकर्मा की पितृ भक्ति, भगवान शिव की महिमा और भगवान विष्णु को प्रसन्न करने वाला स्तोत्र आदि का उल्लेख प्राप्त होता है।, ययाति की जरावस्था, कामकन्या से भेंट तथा पुत्र पुरू द्वारा यौवन दान की प्रसिद्ध कथा भी इस खण्ड में दी गई है। अन्त में गुरु तीर्थ के प्रसंग में महर्षि च्यवन की कथा, कुंजल पक्षी द्वारा अपने पुत्र उज्ज्वल को ज्ञानव्रत और स्तोत्र का उपदेश आदि का वर्णन भी इस खण्ड में मिलता हे। साथ ही ‘शरीरोत्पत्तिह’ का भी सुन्दर विवेचन इस खण्ड में किया गया है।, स्वर्ग खण्ड में बासठ अध्याय हैं। इसमें पुष्कर तीर्थ एवं नर्मदा के तट तीर्थों का बड़ा ही मनोहारी और पुण्य देने वाला वर्णन है। साथ ही शकुन्तला-दुष्यन्त उपाख्यान, ग्रह-नक्षत्र, नारायण, दिवोदास, हरिश्चन्द्र, मांधाता आदि के चरित्रों का अत्यन्त सुन्दर वर्णन यहाँ प्राप्त होता है। खण्ड के प्रारम्भ में भारतवर्ष के वर्णन में कुल सात पर्वतों, एक सौ बाईस नदियों, उत्तर भारत के एक सौ पैंतीस तथा दक्षिण भारत के इक्यावन जनपदों और मलेच्छ राजाओं का भी बद्रिकाश्रम एवं नारायण की महिमा के संवाद के साथ होता है। इसके पश्चात गंगावतरण की कथा, हरिद्वार का माहात्म्य; प्रयाग, काशी एवं गया आदि तीर्थों का वर्णन है।’पद्म पुराण’ की रचना बारहवीं शताब्दी के बाद की मानी जाती है। इस पुराण में नन्दी धेनु उपाख्यान, बलि-वामन आख्यान, तुलाधार की कथा आदि द्वारा सत्य की महिमा का प्रतिपादन किया गया है। तुलाधार कथा से पतिव्रत धर्म की शक्ति का पता चलता है।, इन उपाख्यानों द्वारा पुराणकार ने यही सिद्ध करने का प्रयत्न किया है कि सत्य का पालन करते हुए सादा जीवन जीना सभी कर्मकाण्डों और धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों से बढ़कर है। सदाचारियों को ही ‘देवता’ और दुराचारियों तथा पाश्विक
